How to use a generated character
A list of traits is not a character yet. It becomes one when the traits collide. Look for the tension between two lines: a hospital chaplain who lies when nervous, a beekeeper who wants to leave town without anyone noticing. That friction is your first scene.
- Put the flaw in the way of the want. If they want to be taken seriously and they joke to hide fear, you have a plot.
- Decide who knows the secret. The person who finds out is your second most important character.
- Hear the voice. Write three lines of dialogue before anything else.

What does the random character generator create?
A full character sketch: name, age, occupation, what they want, a flaw, a secret, a quirk and how they speak. That is enough to drop them into a scene.
Why does a character need a want and a flaw?
The want drives the plot forward; the flaw makes getting it harder and creates the possibility of change. Together they generate conflict from inside the character.
Can I generate a backstory?
