Plot generator
A random story idea generator you can steer. Lock the parts you like, reroll the rest, then let the AI sketch the plot.
In a failing seaside funfair, a delivery driver on her last route discovers their neighbour has been writing about them, but no one believes them, and they must act or the world will forget them.
AI output is generated by openai/gpt-6-luna via Vercel AI Gateway. It can be wrong or odd; the prompt lists on this page work without it.
What makes a story idea work?
Most working premises have four parts: a character who wants something, an obstacle in the way, and stakes if they fail. Screenwriting teachers from Syd Field to Blake Snyder phrase it differently, but the core holds. Switch parts off to see what breaks.
A retired lighthouse keeper wants to spend one last night in the lighthouse before it is demolished, but the developer's night guard is his estranged son, and if he is caught he loses the pension the family depends on.
All four parts: a specific person wants something, something personal stands in the way, and failure costs something. That is a premise you can plot from.
From premise to plot in three moves
- Beginning: show the character's ordinary life, then the event that makes the want urgent.
- Middle: each attempt to get what they want makes the obstacle bigger or more personal.
- End: a final choice where the stakes are paid or avoided, and the character is changed either way.

Questions writers ask
How does the plot generator work?
It combines five slots (character, goal, obstacle, stakes and setting) from hand-written lists for the genre you choose. Lock any slot you like and reroll the rest until the premise clicks.
Is this also a story idea generator?
Yes. Each result is a one-sentence story idea. Press "Develop with AI" to get a logline, turning points and an opening line.
Can I use generated plots in published work?
Yes. Premises are not copyrightable, and what you write from them is yours.
